How Do I find my lost dog in the desert?

Hi..
I lost my dog about 27 hours ago. He is a german shepherd puppy and gets spooked really easily. He ran off into the desert. We live on YPG. We were outside and heard a bark in the distance that sounded exactly like him. Is this him? If not, how can we find him?
